Professionals converge on Orlando, FL
The ASHA Convention provides a once-a-year opportunity for professionals to learn about the latest evidence-based practice, polish their skills, improve techniques and gain new tools and resources to advance their careers and augment the workplace.
This year’s event takes place from November 21-23 in Orlando, FL, and registration has been open since August 1. Those professionals and students who wish to attend but have yet to register should check out the information on ASHA’s website. A list of official ASHA hotels is provided, and those interested in sharing a room can even find a potential roommate through the site.
Shuttles to and from the convention, travel discounts, and even special deal to visit Walt Disney World are available through the ASHA’s website.
Once the festivities are underway on Wednesday evening, November 20, first-time attendees are invited to a get-together at the Orange County Convention Center to mingle with others making their first foray to a conference. But the show starts on Thursday at 8:30 a.m., with an opening general session hosted by ASHA President Shari Robertson, who will share her insights before introducing the event’s keynote speaker, Steve Pemberton.
Pemberton endured a tumultuous childhood in which he was an orphan who was subsequently placed into foster care. Despite suffering abuse and neglect in his foster parents’ home, a kind neighbor instilled in him a love of reading that would fuel the hope and perseverance he needed to imagine a better life for himself. His memoir, A Chance in the World: An Orphan Boy, a Mysterious Past, and How He Found a Place Called Home—which is now a major motion picture titled A Chance in the World—tells the story of his childhood, his search for his birth parents, and how he overcame his traumatic past to go on to attend Boston College.
Pemberton’s message is to inspire attendees to “Imagine More.”
Of course, the event will be attended by hundreds of exhibitors, who will enjoy unopposed Exhibit Hall hours each day of the conference.
